Alternating Bass Notes I

As the name implies, this technique utilizes a two-note alternating pattern for playing chord accompaniment. This technique has been utilized in Folk and Country music for the past sixty year. It is now popular in more contemporary styles of music.

In the illustration the 1st bass-note is indicated by the number "1" under the diagram. The second bass-note is indicated by the number "2" under the diagram. The first bass-note is played (plucked) and then the full chord is played. Then the second bass-note is played and then the full chord is played. This creates an interesting rhythmic pattern that will delight you. Practice this technique on the D Major and A7 chords. In a few short minutes it will sound great.
