The guitar, so widely in use today, has a long and interesting background. The instrument, in its current form, is said to have appeared about 1788 in Germany.

Earlier forms of the guitar, having four or five strings, date back as far as 1,000 AD. With only minor changes the guitar has maintained its appearance for nearly two centuries.
