Finger Placement

The exact finger placement on the fingerboard is indicated by small "O" s placed within the diagram. Only three variations are available.

First: an empty circle - a circle with an "X" and a circle with a number. Blank or empty circles indicate a string that will be played "Open. That is, no finger is placed on that string. The circle with an "X" indicates a string that will not be played within the chord. A circle with a number indicates the appropriate finger to place on that specific string at that specific fret.

In the diagram above, the 6th string is not played. The 5th and 4th strings will be played "Open". Your 1st finger (index finger) will be placed at the 2nd fret of the 3rd string. Your 2nd finger will be place on the 1st string at the 2nd fret. Your 3rd finger will be placed at the 3rd fret of the 2nd string. This may sound complicated but you will master it with a few minutes of study. Good luck.
